About 4 million dogs are bred in puppy mills every year—nearly 5 million animals are killed in shelters. It’s happening right in our backyard. Look at pet stores like Monster Pets stores (Audubon, NJ, South Philadelphia, Fairmount Park). They buy puppies from "local family breeders” they won’t reveal. Because—they come from puppy mills.
Monster Pets gets its puppies and other animals from high-volume commercial kennels aka puppy mills. One of them, Turkey Hill Kennels, has been in the news lately for subjecting the caged dogs to ammonia-soaked air, so bad that the USDA inspectors (who are only there for minutes compared to the 24/7 the dogs are subjected to) were forced to don air masks to be able to breathe. When you buy a pet store puppy, a shelter puppy dies. Our homeless animal crisis grows when Monster Pets sells puppies like products. Let’s tell them to stop selling puppies and start working with shelters and rescues to make adoption available at their stores.
Our peaceful demonstrations urge people to rethink shopping at animal-selling pet stores. Your presence reminds the public about the overwhelmed shelter system—and—educates them on link between pet stores and animal mills.
Don’t wish for it, work for it.
